Macon-Bibb, Houston, Peach counties unite to fill megasite near Fort Valley
Macon-Bibb, Houston and Peach counties are creating the Mid-Georgia Gateway Joint Development Authority to recruit industry for a megasite in Peach County.
Governments of Macon-Bibb, Houston and Peach counties have created a new, joint business-recruiting body to find an industrial tenant for a megasite in Peach County.
The Mid-Georgia Gateway Joint Development Authority was approved by all three county commission boards at their respective meetings on Tuesday.
The “Middle Georgia MegaSite” includes 1,534 acres west of Interstate 75 along state Route 96 just outside the city of Fort Valley. Most of the land is owned by The Development Authority of Peach County.
The joint authority will be composed of eight members with four appointments by Peach County and two each from Macon-Bibb and Houston counties. Mayor Lester Miller and Industrial Authority Chairman Robby Fountain will serve as Macon-Bibb County’s representatives, according to county commission documents.
Their terms will end when the election or appointment term for each director ends.
