Annual book sale returns to Macon this weekend

Macon book lovers looking to add to their libraries can grab armfuls of books, load them into wagons or squeeze them into overflowing tote bags this weekend at the Friends of the Library’s annual book sale at the Round Building in Carolyn Crayton Park.

The volunteer organization will host the sale between Friday and Sunday, offering bookworms a wide selection of used reading materials, including cookbooks, children’s literature, fiction and more priced at $1-2 each. 

Any books still left Sunday are marked down to half-price.

Nearly 100 volunteers — year-round staff, employees of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department and students — helped organize this year’s sale, which is Friends of the Library’s largest fundraising event in support of the county library system.

For nearly 60 years, the annual book sales have garnered $2.5 million in support for Macon’s Middle Georgia Regional Library branches. The library has six branches in Bibb County and also hosts pop-up libraries throughout the county through its Library Without Walls community engagement service.

Sale hours vary — Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
