Bibb County School District identifies elementary schools for possible closure

The Bibb County School District is considering shuttering LH Williams, Porter or Hartley Elementary School as part of the district’s ongoing consolidation process.
The district presented the three scenarios at its Consolidation Town Hall meeting yesterday.
- Hartley Elementary students would be rerouted to Ingram-Pye and Southfield Elementary
- LH Williams Elementary students would be rerouted to Ingram-Pye and Hartley Elementary
- Porter Elementary students would be sent to Heard and Skyview Elementary
The district determined these possibilities through “rigorous data analysis” and “active stakeholder engagement” in part through the district’s steering committee and town halls like the one held Thursday.
The decision to consolidate comes amid concerns about Bibb County Schools’ financial viability.
The school district will make its final recommendation to the board in March, according to a Bibb Schools video, after which the board of education will take further action on which school will be closed, if any.
