Downtown Macon breakfast staple Famous Mike’s closes

A downtown Macon staple has abruptly closed its doors after more than eight years in business.

Famous Mike’s of Macon announced its permanent closure on Monday morning, according to a Facebook post from the business.

“We want you all to know that we appreciate every last one of you who came in, dined with us, told us your stories, gave us your time and genuinely cared,” the restaurant wrote in the post. “We appreciate you.”

The restaurant, located at 524 Poplar Street, was known for its burgers, sandwiches and Southern comfort food. Originally named Biscuits, Burgers & More, the restaurant moved from its location in east Macon to downtown and rebranded in 2018. 

It is unclear why the restaurant closed its doors so suddenly. The closure comes more than a year after founder and original owner Mike Seekins unexpectedly died in June 2025. The restaurant continued to operate and participated for the first time in the Downtown Macon French Fry Fight earlier this month. 

“We couldn’t have done it without you. We know Dad appreciates you all too,” the restaurant’s post said. 

When reached Monday, Famous Mike’s of Macon declined The Telegraph’s request for further comment.
