A new chapter for The Melody

Our team and coverage are moving to The Telegraph. Make sure you look for The Melody's community-first journalism as a section highlighting the people, places and moments that are the rhythm of Macon.

Macon’s neighbors are growing. The U.S. Census Bureau released its 2025 population estimates in March, completing a three-year picture of regional growth. Monroe County grew nearly 5% between 2023 and 2025, and Houston County grew nearly 4%. Bibb and Jones counties each grew by less than 1% — fewer than 900 combined new residents over the same period. Population figures are Census Bureau estimates as of July 1 of each year.
