I probably should be over it by now, but whenever I drive past the Goodwill Donation Center at 1948 Hardeman Ave., I expect to see a neon red “Hot Doughnuts” sign in the window.

It makes me want to pull over and order a dozen glazed. After all, that used to be a Krispy Kreme.

There is now a stretch of stores along Tom Hill Sr. Boulevard that includes pet, pizza delivery, battery and beauty supply shops.

I can remember when it was Carol’s Linens. I was asked to be part of a public service announcement commercial that was filmed there. It was also the location of Macon’s original Barnes & Noble book store, and I had several book signings in that store location until it moved to the Shoppes at River Crossing in 2008.

Ah, the afterlife. Reincarnation. As part of my ongoing “Didn’t You Use To Be?” series, here is another Sweet 16 challenge to match the list of current Macon businesses with what they were in a previous life.
