Local restaurants battle it out in Macon Burger Week 2024
Twenty six Macon restaurants are offering $10 specialty burgers for this celebration of beef.
Beef is on the menu starting Friday with 26 restaurants set to compete in Macon Burger Week.
From Nov. 1-9, local restaurants will square off for the title of best burger in town. All burgers cost $10 a la carte and some restaurants offer meal deals with their featured burgers so “consumers eat a reasonable price,” said Dale Sandlin, the executive vice president of the Georgia Beef Board, which sponsors the event.
The Georgia Beef Board represents the interests of Georgia cattlemen and cultivates demand for beef. For diners, burger week is a way to “celebrate beef in a pleasurable way,” while for businesses, the week “helps drive sales,” Sandlin said.
Macon Burger Week will mostly feature beef burgers; Felicia’s Cake Factory is the lone exception, offering a vanilla and chocolate cupcake with sugar cookie “fries” and frosting “ketchup.”
Last year, Grey Goose Players Club won with their “Hot Shot” burger, an 8-ounce patty topped with habanero bacon jam, pimento cheese and a fried green tomato.
Their 2024 entry is “The Clubhouse Champ” — a toasted burger bun topped with lettuce, caramelized red onions, a hand-pattied burger, au poivre sauce and Swiss cheese.
Folks can engage with burger week by grabbing a passport and collecting stamps at participating restaurants. After collecting five or more stamps, participants can mail the passport in for a prize.
“This is a great opportunity for the industry,” Sandlin said. “These people are buying beef on a daily basis and it means a lot to the producers to be able to provide the best and most nutritious beef possible.”
