Macon company awarded $3.8M in paving contracts
Cost estimates provided by the Macon-based paving company were well below estimated amounts submitted by other companies.

The Macon-Bibb County Commission voted to award a contract for 9 more miles of road paving work at a special meeting early Tuesday.
The contract awarded to Professional Paving Services LLC, a company created a decade ago and registered to Amina Financial Solutions on Forsyth Road, is the second $1.9 million paving contract the county awarded to the company this month.
The company provided estimates for both bids at $1.98 million, an amount well below estimates tendered by other companies.
Commissioners also approved an alcohol license for USA Grocer’s Mini Food Stores Inc. on Ingleside Avenue. The gas station was closed for a time after county inspectors redesignated it a vice mart upon finding it met the criteria. However, the store is now stocking fresh foods necessary for it to be reclassified as a food mart.
Other items approved by the commission include:
- Appointment of Macon Transit Authority spokesperson Jami Gaudet to the pensions and retirements system board for a four-year term
- An agreement with Coliseum Medical Center to rent 425 parking spaces on county-owned property at 200 Coliseum Drive for $8,102 per month. The agreement is for one year and stipulates a 3% increase in rent for each year thereafter
- Acceptance of $2.93 million local road assistance grant from GDOT with no local match required
- An independent contract agreement with Turner Construction Management LLC for $641,100 for renovations to the Piedmont Grand Opera House to be paid for using 2018 SPLOST money
- A purchasing order for Dell computers at a cost of $104,444 in general fund money
