The Northeast Raiders opened their playoff campaign in spectacular fashion Friday night, obliterating the Swainsboro Tigers 46-7 to advance to the second round of the GHSA A-Division I state playoffs.

Dominating in all phases, the Raiders left no doubt they’re a force to be reckoned with as they improved to 9-2 on the season.

From the very first snap, Northeast showcased their hunger and focus. The defense set the tone early with linebacker Decorian Brundage snagging an interception on Swainsboro’s opening drive.

The Raiders capitalized immediately, as quarterback Reginald Glover powered into the end zone for the game’s opening score. It was the beginning of a long night for the Tigers, who had no answers for Northeast’s relentless attack.

Head coach Jeremy Wiggins praised his team’s disciplined approach after the win.

“We’re just taking one game at a time right now,” Wiggins said. “We’re just keeping our composure, you know, just working on the little details so we just want to make sure that we take one game at a time and stay corrected on the little small details.”

The Raiders’ offense was unstoppable, led by the dynamic duo of Glover and running back Nick Woodford.

Woodford delivered a performance for the ages, showcasing his trademark power and explosiveness. His 49-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was a highlight reel moment, as he shrugged off tacklers and sprinted to the house. Glover complemented Woodford’s dominance with his own explosive runs, including a 46-yard touchdown that left defenders grasping at air.

By halftime, the Raiders had turned the game into a rout, scoring 34 points in the second quarter alone to take a commanding 46-0 lead.

While the offense dazzled, the defense delivered a clinic in discipline and execution. Amari White and Santana Balkcom wreaked havoc in the Tigers’ backfield, while defensive back Javaris Morgan added another interception to an already stellar night for the unit.

For Northeast’s seniors, this game was personal. Many of them remembered the sting of a 12-6 loss to Swainsboro during their freshman year, and Friday night was their chance to settle the score.

“Well, you know, the last time they played Swainsboro, they lost 12-6 when they were freshmen and that was with the older class,” Wiggins said. “So they kind of took a toll, you know, like they needed to make sure they could come and handle our business tonight. So they were looking forward to this game.”

Swainsboro’s lone touchdown came late in the fourth quarter, long after the game was out of reach. Even as backups filled the field, Northeast maintained their edge, demonstrating the depth and determination that have fueled their success all season.

Wiggins also credited his coaching staff for their preparation. “Well, we just continue to get better each day, each week, and the coaches do a great job of preparing the guys,” he said. “We want to make sure we have our guys ready to play each week, and that’s when we make sure we have leadership for us.”

As the Raiders celebrated their victory, Wiggins emphasized the importance of staying focused on the road ahead.

“One game at a time. One game at a time, you know. Enjoy the win tonight, but get ready to go to work tomorrow and Sunday and get ready for whoever we play next week.”

This blowout victory wasn’t just a win — it was a statement. The Raiders, who have won eight games this season by 21 points or more, look every bit like a team poised for a deep playoff run.
