The GHSA finalized its baseball and soccer state tournament brackets over the weekend, and multiple Macon schools secured postseason spots after the regular season concluded.

The ACE boys and girls soccer teams both earned impressive No. 2 seeds in their respective Class A-Division I brackets thanks to the Post Season Ranking (PSR) formula from GHSA. The girls (17-1 overall, 7-0 in Region 2) play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday while the boys (11-5, 7-0) take the field Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Central girls (6-9, 3-5) were the next-highest seeded team from the Bibb County School District, earning the No. 18 spot in Class A-Division I. They are on the same side of the bracket as ACE and, if both teams win their first round games, could play the Gryphons in the second round.

The Central boys (7-8, 4-4) also made the playoffs, earning the No. 28 seed in the bracket. Both Central teams finished outside the top four in the region standings but benefited from the PSR to make the playoffs as at-large teams. The PSR factors in a team’s winning percentage but also the strength of its opponents. Central’s tough opponents, such as ACE and Peach County, likely helped both the boys and girls break into the top 32.

The Howard boys (10-7, 7-7 in Region 4-3A) were the only other team to make the playoffs, earning the No. 30 seed in the Class 3A tournament. They will face West Laurens, a region opponent, in the opening round. The Huskies lost to the Raiders twice, 2-1 and 3-1, in the regular season.

ACE is the only public school in Macon to make the baseball playoffs. The Gryphons are the No. 9 seed and will have a home series against Haralson County.
