Yes.

Although no final decision has been made, at least one proposed route for a high-speed rail route in Georgia would run through Macon.

Officials are attempting to build a train system with high speed rail functionality that could come through Macon while connecting Atlanta to Savannah, according to a study from the Georgia Department of Transportation and Macon officials.

In a Macon-Bibb County commission meeting on July 15, 2025, Mayor Lester Miller and other county commissioners signed a resolution to support the construction of a passenger rail route to pass through Bibb County.

The project would be a rail regulated by the Federal Railroad Administration  connecting Atlanta to Savannah though the project has no specific routes, according to GDOT. The greater distances between stops would allow for faster trains.

The study is projected to run until 2027 and is using $10 million of total funding from congress and state coffers.
