There are a lot of celebrations happening this week and next where you can celebrate the Fourth of July and catch some fireworks across Middle Georgia. Fireworks are legal in Georgia for people who are 18 and older, but there are a few things to consider to celebrate safely.

Jeremy Webb, the Macon-Bibb Fire Department’s fire safety educator, said children cannot light fireworks and fireworks should not be lit under the influence of alcohol. If you’re shooting off fireworks, avoid wooded areas and overhead obstructions, and never relight a dud firework. He also suggested keeping a water source nearby in case you need to douse out a firework.

The City of Warner Robins hosts its 41st annual Independence Day celebration this Saturday with food and live entertainment and of course, fireworks. There will be a free show featuring Scott Stapp, lead vocalist from the rock band Creed, and Jefferson Starship, a San Francisco band that celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Patrick said this year’s celebration is different from last year as there is projected to be great weather compared to last year.

“This year is going to be great because we got the same lineup from last year with the artists that were unable to perform,” she said.

Patrick also mentioned there will be places for people to cool down. The City of Warner Robins is also partnering with Happy Hour Service Center as they will be providing a shuttle service to get people from the parking areas.

The celebration will also feature a kids’ area called the “Patriotic Playtown”.

It will feature Middle Georgia Gellyball, which will bring its gellyball arena, and face painters from Maar Bear Body Art. The zone will also feature balloon twister Susana Bixler, Super Top Bouncers, which will bring a virtual reality amusement park, and the A-1 Express Gaming Truck. Fairytales and Friends will bring out a few superheroes for the night, and kids will be able to meet them.

There will be 24 food trucks on site.

“People should come and celebrate with the City of Warner Robins because there is nothing else better to do this Saturday,” she said. “This is the place where you need to be to have good, free family fun for every single age-group,” she said. “We are doing it before the Fourth of July because it is mid-week, so spend your Saturday with us for our Independence celebration.”

Gray-Jones County Independence Day Extravaganza – June 27, Morris Bank Recreation Complex

Centerville Independence Day Celebration – June 28, Center Park

6-10 p.m.

Kicking off the weekend festivities is a celebration in Center Park. While there will be no fireworks, there is a “patriotic drone light show” scheduled, accompanied by the usual festival plants like food trucks, live DJ music and games.

One aspect of Centerville’s celebrations that stands out from the rest is the Patriotic Drone Light Show.

“It will be a Patriotic Drone Show that is cued to music, and there will be different patriotic images that will change and turn into other images, and it’s going to be so cool. I cannot wait,” Special Events and Marketing Coordinator for the City of Centerville Tess Chambers said.

This year, the drone show will replace the fireworks. This is something they have never done before, and Chambers thinks it has not been done around here yet.

“It works out because it is good for kids that have sensory issues or anything like that to loud noises,” she said. “We’re hoping that people enjoy it just as much.”

Chambers said they hired a company that specializes in doing these types of drone shows.

“They are in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most runs at an event and they do shows all over the world,” she said. “Depending on how many drones you can do, they can do 3-D and 4-D images in the sky. It’s going to be great, and I can’t wait to see what it actually looks like.”

Chambers said the City of Centerville tries to make the events they have family oriented and kid-friendly.

“People can come and have a nice evening out and spend it with friends and family, the people that live around them, and celebrate it in the Center and in Center Park,” she said.
