A winter storm is poised to drop several inches of snow across Middle Georgia Tuesday afternoon which, combined with sub-freezing temperatures, will make Macon roads “pretty treacherous” Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Most area schools and county offices are closed or closing Tuesday before the storm hits. Unlike the winter storm two weeks ago, Middle and South Georgia should receive more snow than Metro Atlanta.
Temperatures will remain at or below freezing throughout Tuesday evening and into Wednesday afternoon. Anything that melts will refreeze overnight when temperatures drop again Wednesday night.
“We want people to stay off the roadways if possible, during and after the snowfall, because roads will become pretty treacherous,” NWS Meteorologist Ryan Willis said. “It’s gonna be quite cold, especially during the overnight and morning hours, and that definitely leads to issues if precautions are not taken, like wearing plenty of layers, taking care of pipes that could freeze outside and bringing in pets.”
