The Otis Redding Center for the Arts will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday morning and open its doors to the public on Saturday after three years of construction.
The Otis Redding Foundation will be joined by the Chamber of Commerce, Macon Mayor Lester Miller and county commissioners.
The 15,000 square foot center contains a 250-person amphitheater, interactive gallery space, upgraded practice rooms and a new recording studio.
The center will be used both for concerts and to provide after-school musical programming for kids. The additional space is a much-needed upgrade, said Justin Andrews, the foundation’s director of outreach, back in October.
“Education and giving back to the community were very important to my father,” said Karla Redding-Andrews, vice president of the Otis Redding Foundation. “So we are honored and excited to be able to add another piece to his legacy and continue serving our community through the center.”
