At his April 14 State of the Community address, Mayor Lester Miller said Bibb County recorded “the least amount of homicides we had in almost a decade” in 2025, crediting the Macon Violence Prevention program. According to previous Macon Melody reporting and data collected from the Bibb County coroner and sheriff, the county recorded 29 homicides last year — down from a peak of 70 in 2022, the highest total in at least a decade. The 2025 total remains higher than the 20 recorded in 2016 and the 27 recorded in 2019. Through April 21, Bibb County has recorded 15 homicides in 2026.
