Macon family celebrates father’s memory on ‘Family Feud’

The family that “Feuds” together stays together — or at least that’s the case for one Macon family.

The Bellamys — brothers Maurice, Angelo, Alonzo and Devin, plus mom Patricia — discovered what it’s like behind the big red buzzer when they participated in the ABC game show “Family Feud.”

Although filmed earlier this year at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, the Bellamys episode didn’t air until Oct. 20. The family held a watch party in the auditorium at Southwest High School.

The experience was “incredible” and “mind-blowing,” Patricia said — although she admitted to some temporary amnesia while on air and especially when interacting with Steve Harvey, host of the hit show since 2010.

Devin agreed: “Knowing that you’re going to be on TV — your mind kind of goes blank.”

Maurice said that, while he was nervous to see himself on TV, Harvey was a relatable figure.

Angelo said it was a “memorable” experience — even though some parts of the filmed show were left on the cutting-room floor. 

The Bellamys said their time on the show wasn’t just about the competition or being featured on TV — it was also a chance to memorialize their father, Morris. 

Morris died two years ago, and his favorite show was “Family Feud,” Maurice said. 

“I would come home sometimes, even when I was younger, and I would just hear him laughing,” he said. “He just enjoyed the show that much.”

Maurice — a sergeant — and Angelo — recently promoted to captain — work for the Bibb County schools police department and wore their uniforms on the show.

Originally from West Palm Beach, Florida, the Bellamys moved to Macon a decade ago. 

They have always been a competitive bunch, Patrica said, but “we’re big on encouraging each other and just keeping each other lifted and happy.”

The Bellamy family confirmed that this won’t be the last time viewers see them on screen. They plan to return to the show in 2027.

“It just makes me think about my dad, and he’s the reason why we did it,” Alonzo said. “I just know he would be so proud to see us representing our family.”
